If you’re in business for yourself, the odds are that you have risked your own financial solvency to shoot for success. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
But some folks find that they can risk less of their own money by getting the rest of us to pony up the cash to get their businesses going, simply by convincing a few government bodies to hand over our tax money. This story by Art Woolf on Vermont Tiger is a great example of this.
I don’t blame the business, of course; they’re just leveraging our government’s willingness to pick winners based on their own political criteria. The fact that it usurps the choices of the rest of us makes no difference to either the business that gets our cash, or to the politicians who hand it over.
